Top Ten Tips

As a Family Real Estate Specialist, I have noticed that many families are forgetting some crucial family needs while searching for a home. Since the entire process can be so overwhelming, it is easy to overlook some of the day to day necessities. Here is my list of Top Ten Things to find in your next family home.
  1. What elements of a neighborhood are calming? Are there walking trails for you and your toddler? Do you need a neighborhood pool or a covered tot lot?
  2. Are backyard safety modifications for toddlers and pets needed?
  3. Is there adequate storage in the garage, indoors and outdoors?
  4. Who’s bedroom is over the garage? Will you be able to open the garage without waking up the baby?
  5. Traffic flow: does the garage open into the kitchen for ease with groceries or do you have to trek through the entire house?
  6. HOA rules and stringency: Will the HOA allow you to put up a basketball hoop or tall swing set?
  7. Proximity to basic needs like a grocery store, post office, bank, park, gas station, and schools.
  8. Where are the washer and dryer located? Whom will it wake up during naptime or evening hours?
  9. Internet capabilities: can mom check her email and watch children play at the same time?
  10. Neighborhood children population. Look for clues such as kids’ bikes outside and check it out around 3 pm to see how many kids are walking home from school, ratio of older kids vs. younger children.
